Location – University of Huddersfield
Number of Participants – 10
Workshop Length – 3 Hours

An introduction to GPS for Architecture students.
- Introduction to GPS and what Landlines can do.
- Participants draw mental maps and memory maps to explore
how they think about space and location.
- Walks using Landlines.
- View and discuss walks using customised GoogleMaps.
- Discussion of techniques Architects use to find out about
and document a place.
- Discuss how landlines could be used by architects.

"I took for granted places where I walked, but now seeing
the graph made me realise that I had actually left a footprint."
"I was more aware of how Huddersfield links together,
rather than just taking these routes for granted."
"If you could link the routes with photos instantly,
during a field study it would be invaluable afterwards to pool information
between a big group." (this functionality has now been added to Landlines)
"It seemed to follow me in a way I could visualise
in my head."
"This technology could be used in architecture for
carrying out urban or field studies."
"Its like Big Brother, you feel you are being watched
and you are careful where you go."
